Findhorn Watersports

Findhorn Watersports is owned by Jane and Niall Campbell Morrison and was started in February 2024. Jane and Niall have loved Findhorn for many years and have wanted to provide opportunities for the local community and visitors to the area to get out on the water and enjoy Findhorn Bay. The school is RYA recognised and holds RYA OnBoard and Sailability accreditation as well as holding provider accreditation for Moray Council.

FAQ

Do I need to have my own boat for powerboat or sailing courses?

No, we provide the boats for our powerboat and sailing courses. If you have your own boat and would like a lesson to help you get familiarised with your boat, please do get in touch.

Do I need to have my own wetsuit or buoyancy aid?

No as we provide this equipment as part of your course. We have a range of wetsuits and buoyancy aids to fit as many different people as possible. If you are concerned, please do get in touch.

We will ask you to wear one of our buoyancy aids, as ours have been tested and monitored rather than your own buoyancy aid. Please do not take offence at this.

Do you ever cancel a course?

We will only cancel a course if the weather is extreme, otherwise the courses run. There are always things that we can do!

Where do the courses take place?

Generally the courses take place in Findhorn Bay, with powerboat courses heading out into the Moray Firth. Sailing courses will only head out to the Moray Firth if the weather and tide allows.

How can I pay for a course?

We can take most forms of payment, but not American Express at this time, apologies if this causes any inconvenience to our customers.

Will I get a certificate from attending a course?

It depends on the course, and how well you get on. If you are attending a taster session, then you will get a taster session certificate. If you attend an RYA certificated course and achieve the right level, then you will get an RYA certificate. If you are not at the right level (and we will always work hard to get you there) we will provide an action plan to help you develop the skills that you need to achieve the certificate.

Is Findhorn Bay the best place to learn to sail or powerboat?

We think so! It is a beautiful bay, and there is always water in parts of the Bay that we can access even if the tide is out. The wildlife to see if amazing, and you may even get to hear the seals singing!

Are the instructors qualified?

All of our instructors are RYA qualified, with many of them at a high level and having taught for some time.

Is food, hot drinks or snacks provided?

We supply hot drinks and water, along with biscuits but you need to bring your own lunch. Please tell us if you have any dietary requirements, particularly allergies, so we can manage our activities accordingly.
